Picked up Bamboo today...too bad they included the original version, it
makes the price of the EP a bit steep for those of us who already own
the album. Except for one track from Shunt, no tracks from Spooky's
generic EPs have appeared on their albums. This makes the EPs 30 min.
or so of concentrated juice. Bamboo falls a little short of the 30 min
mark when you subtract the orig. version of Bamboo. 5 trax wudda bin
nyse.
the MUSIC:
The remixes are juddery fury touched with a few sweet licks here and
there. The big synth pads half way thru "theme from catapult" sound
very reminiscent of the orchestral swells of Underworld's "Born
Slippy." (Eerily so, too close for
comfort, IMHO.)
Doi-oing's signature dry-sounding drums and speedy programming make for
uplifting dance music. Trancey in spots too.
Little bullet was always the best track off Gargantuan, and the live
version included here fleshes it out nicely while jazzing-up the
straight 4/4 beats that made the original dull and thuddy in the bass
dept.
7/10

Rather than interpreting this as an obnoxious ref. to sweaty
canine
glands I was just being daft and altering the "dogs bollocks"
meaning; ace!
