It is not a violation of copyright law to sell domestic and import CDs side by side. It is a violation of copyright law to import non-US copies of releases that are copyrighted in the US if you don't have the permission of the US copyright holder. Importing CDs and selling CDs are two different things, and how heavily these laws are enforced depends on how much pressure the RIAA is bothering to put on US Customs at any given time. Unless there's a big anti-import push on (as has happened at least twice in the last ten years), there will usually be plenty of non-US copies of the new Depeche Mode single flowing into the US for record shops to sell right alongside the domestic version. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo)
