Hi Folks, From The Guardian ("quality" UK spreadsheet newspaper) this Saturday: "Hey, what's that sound driving the kids crazy? It's called electronica. Faced with alternative rock's built-in obsolescence, the American music industry is currently attempting to will a new movement into being. Suddenly, magazines are devoting long, ardouous spreads to this thing called electronica (a catch-all term encompassing techno, jungle, drum 'n' bass, and ambient), record companies are snapping up UK studio noodlers by the dozen, and MTV has jettisoned its long running Alternative Nation in favour of something called Amp, which features the likes of Alex Reece and Autechre. MTV is also influencing its constituency with little lectures from tastemakers like Porno For Pyros about how the future of music sounds a lot like this crazy electronica stuff. Will this concerted attempt to teach the mosh pit some fresh steps take hold? Well, Firestarter and Setting Sun are both in Billboard's Top 50..." *Sigh*, where does one begin? Whilst I can't be arsed with all the holier than thou shit about staying "underground", and am not thrown into a panic by seeing my faves in the inkies, I still despair at this pathetic level of journalism. The Guardian has an e-mail address, I think, shall we all drop them a line?... love, Rob ;-) ----------------------------------------------------------- 'Drum Machines - hell, you just programme the motherfucker, press a button, you got that "bim, bam, boom" twenty four hours a day if you want it. You want it to stop? Press another button! Synthesizers too. I love 'em!' - Miles Davis, 1986
