If you've heard Thomas Koner's ambient stuff (metallic floor rumbling
chillscapes) this is very similar (if not identical in spots) with a
superimposed trance or dub beat...all done very tastefully. Port
Gentil is elegant trancehouse with a swirling melodic edge to it.
Nautical Dub is a throbber in the vein of a chilled-out Unit Mobeus.
Biokinetics 1 is a distorted clanking trance-machine. Biokinetics 2
is ambient dub with that trademark Koner low-end and soundscapism;
the beat is subdued and mixed way down. Port of Call is flat out
dance but with a Koner-esque take on acid: distorted, buzzing acid.
This would be GREAT in a club. It goes on and on for 9
minutes...building, bleepy, and experimental...at the same time
slightly trancey. Port of Nuba is another long but changing DANCE
workout. Comparable to something like ScanX. Minimal and driving.
Interesting use of sounds: a prominent sound is like a ping pong
ball hitting a piece of wood. The next song is a dub. And the last
number is a throbbing, sizzling, closet-shaking piece of ambient
dub. Vidna Obmana with some beats mixed way down sorta.
Overall: I like it. Listen First. Get it if you're into trancier
stuff (dv8? stray?)
Next up: Ambient Alien Galaxy (its time to SIT down). This is a comp
of ambient soundscapes constructed by Laswell, Namlook, Buckethead,
Musso, M. Harris, etc. Despite being on Hypnotic, this ain't bad
ambient dub.
Happy Mardi Gras!
