(not to mention impending >execution) focus the mind quite remarkably. i agree totally...but i think in todays society ..especially america...there is a good deal of suffering and reaching and adversity even outside of the inner city...it's a consumerist society that is always waving a goodie in front of our faces..so i would venture to say that it's not only the ghetto youth who are cultural builders, but even those in the suburbs where there is a large faceless from of oppression...cold, impersonal and sublime....a lack of community and reliance on the automobile and just general modernized slavery... the whole electronic "explosion" is a symptom and result of this ( imo)...see raves and what not... MANY of us are in difficult positons... at least in the inner city, though...there's a community and a neighborhood.....suburbia is so isolating...and the reward punishment syndrome...blah blah blah...i live in the city now..:) but let us just leave it at poverty is the stuff that dreams are made of. l8r b
