well now i never said that if you don't like it that's because you don't understand it. i'm sure many people thoroughly reviewed it and decided they didn't like it. but there are probably others who listened to it a couple times and discarded it because it didn't strike their fancy right away. (it didn't mine on listen #1). and that's fine of course. and when you say 'listen to anything for long enough and you'll begin to hear things that you didn't notice .... etc' i still don't see how that's negative at all. i read an interview with markus popp (oval) and he responds when asked what music he listened to: "not very much in particular. just whatever music is on whenever i'm waiting somewhere. i dunno, it's kinda everywhere anyway, so..." point is... i think many music listeners are not critics. i, for one, can honestly say that i can enjoy any music. it all has potential to be good, or interesting, or bad, or anything when it is listened to without black and white judgement.

oh of course. i definetely would rule out that autechre has any "beneath the surface" message in any of their music. i would say that they have "beneath the surface" richness though. not a message, but that's where i think autechre becomes truly beautiful and advanced music. i recall an article i read which i'm sure many of you have also read that parallels autechre's engineering with disneyland blueprints. it was 1997 i believe during the chiastic slide period when they were commenting on the mechanical detailing beneath the magic of disneyland. i'd say they certainly stuck with that 'philosophy' throughout the next few releases. changing the sounds, but keeping the detailing and carving it down even further and further with each release. it

on the contrary, i am happier when i discover that i like something i wouldn't normally enjoy. it's sort of.... fascinating to me when i find that i'm into something outside my normal listening scheme. most people, you're right, would not give ep7 'so many chances'.... along with anything else that isn't fast food. i prefer not to think of music listening in terms of 'chances'. it's not like a make or break thing you know. it's just music. anyway, i'm not going in further with this one. listen free! joseph fitzpatrick -----Original Message----- From: Noah Sasso <nsassokareli@clarku.edu> To: idm@hyperreal.org <idm@hyperreal.org> Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2000 5:50 PM Subject: (idm) Re: chiastic slide
