i'm quite amused by all of the posts lately concerning how electronic music is going 'commercial' and how mtv is going to ruin the music we obviously all love. i've read posts this past week concerning rdj being reviewed in rolling stone and how unbelievable it is to see his videos on mtv. first of all, rdj has been reviewed in rolling stone several other times. in fact both 'selected ambient works vol 2' and 'i care...' received favorable reviews. additionally, rdj is no stranger to mtv. they showed his 'on' video three years ago when it was first released. and as far as 'big label money' goes, has any of you noticed what label the majority of rdj's music is released on in the us? if you actually enjoy the music for what it is, why do you care if other people like it or not? i'm sure some electronic music will have mass appeal, but how is that different from past electronic artists that have been popular (depeche mode, new order, etc). i really can't imagine the better idm artists ever being popular in the mainstream - they're just too strange for mass consumption. chill out. talk about music for a change. my email is boring me.
