So who were you expecting to read your post? ;-) Well, as long as I'm posting, I guess I should say something useful. I lost the message from someone asking about software to convert graphics and sound, but here's my answer: it really depends on which platform you're using. For Mac, MetaSynth is really good but expensive. For Unix, get the freeware academic program called Ceres. I think it's Norwegian. For Windows, there's really nothing great. I've been using Csound, with good-sounding results -- you use the phase vocoder opcode to analyse a sound, then a free program called PV2Pict to convert the .pv files to and from pictures. To resynthesize the .pv file, you'll have to know some Csound, but it's done with the pvoc or pvadd opcodes. If that sounds like too much trouble, there's also a free (?) program called Bmp2Wav for Windows, but I've never gotten decent results with it. Hope that helps! Peter
