Subject: (idm) End of the year poll? our votes for records of the year , can't find the original mail about the poll , so if these dont register , who really gives a flying one anyway.. 1.black dog - music for adverts lp (warp) cos ken is such an anti geezer and warp hated it, one black dog lp is worth a lifetime of any other artists work. 2.two lone swordsmen - anything (emissions) cos weatherall ate all the pies , and reinvented himself as an american house dj - yer don't fool us andy - i remember the shaggy perm and dodgy 'knitted by me mum' jumpers 3.roupe - entelechy 12" (resource) ignored by the multitudes , treasured by the few, most of the good music in 96 went this way.. 4.tortoise - millions living lp (city slang) post rock was more interesting than most electronic music released in 1996, see fuxa, amp, directions in music, miss bliss, windy & carl, transient waves, mind expansion, soundsmith, rome etc etc 5.jimpster - martian arts 12" (freerange) a downtempo version of squarepusher ,genre hopping at its finest . posted in idm digest 890

err. a good bit of 'fracturing' about never did any body any harm, try listening to 'live evil' by miles davis , makes most of these polyrhythmic 'electronic' artists seem like cliched 4/4 merchants , and that album was recorded 25 years ago.. yes- i would like to kiss the feet of the creators of this_work of art, funny but i've never heard as many superlatives heaped upon a warp record release - perhaps they should take up web design full time:)... rich and mike p are simply open to new sounds and ideas and incorporate them in an original way into their own music., bandwagon jumping is a strong phrase... quick drum n bass history...evolved from the use of speeded up breakbeats in 'rave' scene circa 1990/1991 , but people like black dog were combining breakbeats and electronica with a lot more finesse as early as 1989 (see 'virtual''age of slack' for ref..), sm@4thworld *cutting edge mail order* http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld/ np - fluid - thoughtography
