IDM Content: Vulva "Birdwatch" (Rephlex Cat035) I started out rather disappointed in this, as there's nothing to it that immediately rips the top of your head off and goes for your pineal gland. But the more I listen the more I like. And how can you go wrong with a song title like "Wailing Vulvas?" BTW it's 55 minutes long which is more music for your entertainment dollar than recent rephlex offerings. Seefeel "CH-VOX" (Rephlex Cat036) This is either the most brilliant record of the year, the one they'll be talking about in 100 years in Music History, or it's the final sad chapter in the disintegration of a good band. Or maybe both, or neither. Listening to this record is like being in a sensory deprivation tank. It's vague, moody, and dark. The beats are almost entirely gone. The female voice is mostly gone, or processed beyond recognition. A head scratcher. Gary Moscheles: "Shaped to Make Your Life Easier" In which Michael Parradinas pledges allegiance once again to cop show themes, Martin Denny, and early 60's bongo records. Some great tunes, some OK tunes, all entertaining, and quite a pleasant listen. But at some point MP should slow down and not release any more CDs until he can fill an hour with just the Alien-Chest-Burster-State-Of-The-Art tracks of which he's capable. Clatterbox "Eazy Does It" (Clear CLR422) I got the original clatterbox vinyl a while back and it underwhelmed me, based somewhat on being played back through a really crap stereo. On CD, "Eazy Does It" rocks me hard, cool tunes somewhat on the neo-electro tip, but the writing, production and sound selection are consistently of the highest caliber. Play it loud. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Some stuff is obviously a lot more popular than other stuff" -- Tom Butcher Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)
