There is a very good 180ish-page book by Pascal Bussy called "Man, machine, and music". It covers everything you need to know. I have written a review of the book which can also serve as a short biography. E-mail me if you want it. Otherwise, there are naturally tons of resources on the net, and a mailing list (don't know the address though).
