Heh! I've been on and off this list for for the last 5 years (yeah, back Fluid ran the list) and it's never changed. The signal to noise ratio ebbs and flows like a manic tide and there's never a shortage of 'assheads'. But it's also a great resource for finding good music in the genre. What I usually do is watch the arguements for a while over whatever topic (at the moment it's mp3's) and see what everyone has to say. Usually someone who has a clue will pipe up and say something about an encoder, or a pair of good headphones, or a great deal on some cd/record somewhere and it becomes worth sifting thru the crap. So, in that spirit, I'll mention that emusic.com sells 128k mp3s of many Fax records I would ordinarily not be able to buy (for a price I'd call reasonable). So, 9 bucks got me a great record last night at a bit rate that's pretty acceptable to my ears. The download took hours though, even at a sustained 5k transfer rate. A 192k encoded set of mp3's would have taken forever. So there's my 3 cents (no change). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
