it's quite subjective though, bill. different encoders have different
quality, bitrates vary, etc.
audiocatalyst and 224 or 192 kbit encoding sound great to me, have you ever
given that proggie a shot?
mp3 lossy compression is different than jpeg or some other lossy
compression, because it throws out theoretically what you can't hear. sure
you get some artifacts, but as the bitrate increasese those become less
noticeable. curious if you've ever done the 'blind test' and compared 192
or higher bitrate mp3 with a cd and seen if you can consistently tell the
difference. (and though this isn't the argument, 40 gigs of mp3s could fit
on 2 cheap $200 hard drives, whereas you'd have to have 625 cds for all
that)
not attacking, just trying to chime in for the boys at fraunhofer who can't
defend themselves ;)
