and Franz added: e> I heard this was a real goodie... ;) Now that you mention it. I've been awfully negligent about reviewing or hyping things lately. Anyways. I got this tape too, and also I lucky enough to have one with the added bonus track 'fuzzy knight'. According to the inlay 'Aircheck' is Plod's second demo cassette, their first one 'Pni' was released under their a.k.a. LhIX. I've played the tape many times now, which is unusual for me as playing tapes is not one of my favourite passtimes. The opening number 'Aircheck' immediately captivated my attention. Analogue sounds, beats and tears ... I LOVE it. A bit distorted here and there but then I'm no sound purist. (one of my fav indie guitarbands 'Flying Saucer Attack' are meant to be recorded over the top) The second track '<-L' is definitely my favourite. It's supposed to be a tribute to an old boyroomcompanion (Commodore C-64), but to me it sounds like it should have been dedicated to early morning bathroom rituals. The synth first sounds like someone brushing his teeth, this effect being confirmed by a sample of one of those hot air things to dry your hands with in public conveniences. Nice catchy melodies, dry, dry beats ... the giggles. I'm ready to face the world once again. Taiga's opening sounds make me go 'oh wow' .... a feeling remeniscent of the feeling I got when first listening to JEGA. (Had to get that one in again) Anyways. I'm not doing a track by track review. I get distracted by the music playing anyhow. The melodies are good, the acid sounds take me away, but mostly the beats are doing it for me. Always different, some dry and harsh, some really fat, and then the mu-ziq style tearing squelchy ones ... (squelching seems very fitting for a group named Plod). Enough. I want to listen to the music again. You all should! Just get eggschell@ts.umu.se to send you a demo, so you can hear for yourself why this tape has me in it's grip. Autechre, AFX, mu-ziq, Richie Hawtin, JEGA .... Helen OnNow: Plod - Aircheck
