I picked up the new Meat Beat Manifesto 12" yesterday, not expecting it to be anything special : I don't think I would have got it if it hadn't had a Plug mix on it, because I wasn't all that impressed with Transmission or Asbestos Lead Asbestos. However, I was wrong! I think this is MBMs best release since they "came back". It's definitely more reminiscent of the old stuff than a lot of the tracks on Subliminal Sandwich. Also, the Vibert track is a gem! (I can't wait to hear the Stereolab track...) The beats are rock solid : I love it when he takes a break, plays it for a while with the usual messing about, and then suddenly launches it into a drum 'n' bass style assault. I would have bought this just for the Vibert, but the fact that the slice of Meat Beat is first class makes this my dream record. Try and imagine 99% meeting Plug 1, and you will understand what this record sounds like! Matthew Hunter mhun@dcs.ed.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------
