greetings some reviews of up and coming biggies - deleted if these things piss you off:) - street date for all 18/11 Paul Teerbroke - Nova 12" (Op - Art 4) Packaged in the classic style of 70's jazz releases , Kirk De Georgio's label unleashes another slice of funky electronica and with the mighty Stasis at the helm , this is of unsurpassed quality. "Nova" is the sound of machines chattering amongst themselves, phunked up Carl Craig style rough breaks with morphing melody and dreamy strings. "M42" goes onna galactic funk trip with driving hip hop beats and soulful atmospherics. "Blue Light" comes straight from the AFX school of distorted twisted madness , atonal shrieks and cut up turntable manipulation sounds like Grandmaster Flash gone bezerk. Jimi Tenor - Cant Stay with You Baby 7" (Warp) Limited release from Finish superstar , the first thing that hits me while listening to "Can't Stay" is Hot Chocolate , Yes Errol Browns mob from the 70's , Jimi's hi pitched croon combined with deadpan backing vocals over a kitch lounge lizard/disco soundtrack conjour up visions of dodgy top of the pops sets and pencil thin microphones , a soulful hammond organ solo whirls over the top restoring some normality , whilst the flip "Caravan" sounds like somebody bashing a toy piano over Drexciya speeded up to +8 , my vote for xmas number one.. Red Snapper - Loopascoopa 12" (Warp) Part of a double disc featuring mixes by Tortoise,Mr Scruff and Coldcut , we only have the Coldcut mix - so cant comment on t others!! Youa ll know the original from the album , Black & Moore turn up the heat with a sonic journey through Dub, Electro & Latin fusion powered by some old skool moog trickery and driving beats that sound like the funky drummer played on kettle drums. Tortoise - Taut & Tame (Luke Vibert remix) / Wait (Bundy K Brown remix 12" (Thrill Jockey) - Out Now.. Part 4 in the series , Luke builds up the track from reflective opening keys at first adding straight drum n bass breaks before moulding and shaping the beats into a more chaotic structure , strange and discordant samples drift in and out of the mix as the track builds up and breaks down several times, Bundy K Brown's - part of the Directions in Music trio (check out the album on thrill jockey) ,take on 'The Wait' is like jazz in slo-mo ,with gentle ticking beats, breezy chimes and a whispering barely audiable voice.Excellent sm@4thworld *cutting edge mail order* http;//ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld/
