A few months ago, the owner/founder of Waxtrax! died of AIDS. This will
probably have some impact on the domestic releases of Warp. I doubt that
TVT will continue to release Warp and I am not sure of the current status of
Waxtrax! records. I am surprised that this is not well known. It was a great
loss of a person who had a major impact on electronic music in America that
assuradly co-influenced(alongside hip-hop and electro) the interest in idm
and inspiration in many of america's electronica composers. I thought of the
domestic Warp issues as a way for Waxtrax! to catch up with what was happening
in electronic after the label fell behind for a few years. The Warp releases
were evidence that Waxtrax! never lost sight of a vision of pioneering
electronic music.
