Sorry if this has been talked about before but I've been gone for a while.
For all those who seem to be heavily into Locust (and the track with
Karen Carpenter) have you seen the Locust video? Actually, it's a
bunch of videos, about an hour long, that was projected at Sonar '96.
I only saw about 15 minutes of it but it was an interesting idea. I
assume all of the tracks are made up entirely of samples, and the videos
are made up of the (audio) samples' video counterparts.
Example: In the one with the Karen Carpenter sample you see on one third
of the screen the drum "loop" (he seemed to be really into sampling
Phil Collins/Genesis) and on another third, every time the Karen's voice
came on, that couple of seconds from a Carpenters live video, and I
believe he also sampled Sheila Chandra (who hasn't?). It was an
interesting idea, but there's only so much he could do with pure samples,
and it gets tedious after awhile. There was this guy yelling "You're
in your big house, you're in your big car" for about 7 minutes straight.
If anyone's interested, they also projected a bunch of other videos,
including Sahko: The Movie, a compilation of Source (David Moufang's
Source, not the French label) videos and I believe something related
to Aphex Twin.
