4th world communication New releases that have tickled our fancy (and it's only monday!) Mike Dred & Peter Green - Epnom Bymon 12" (UK Machine Codes E) One sided , Mike and Peter describe their music thus "We are conviced that our hybrid style (modern classical meets electro acoustic) will become the turning point for future popular culture . In 1912 there were riots after Stravinsky's first performance of the Rite's of Spring...But it has become popular culture through the passing of time. One day our music will be as acceptable....By then , we will be looking to the new thing" , what does it sound like - well , a collage of jumbled up radio signals , random distortion ear splitting electro beats and out and out avant - garde noise. Out 9th September. Bochum Welt - Module 2 CD (UK Rephlex) Only got 8 tracks on the copy we've got , so don't know if this is the complete finished article or not , no titles as well- so here goes. Opening cut is a red herring with barrage of distorted electro beats and frantic morse code tappings you are preparing your self for one hell of a ride , but the rest of the tracks veer off in a completely different direction , using subtle electro beats as the foundation but layering the tracks in melodic, emotive melodies that remind one of 80's synth pop pioneers like Depeche Mode, New Order , Kraftwerk combined with the twisted vision of Drexciya/Ectomorph, track 4 is a particular stand - out , a lonely distress call from the last days of dying starship lost millions of miles from home. Mark Broom - Angie is a Shoplifter CD/LP (UK Pure Plastic) Broomy (as he's known down here) nicks the title and artwork from some local graffiti and turns in a fine opening innings , if yer don't know Mark has recorded tracks for GPR (with Plaid) , Ifach , Mo Wax , Rewired , Warp , Cosmic and has spun on tours with both Black Dog and Autechre. Demonstrating his fine grasp of dancefloor dynamics , Mark is both subtle and abstract without ever loosing the basic funk of the tracks , "X marks the Spot" is the highspot , a sister to the lovely "Spring" on Pure Plastic 2 , deep soulful Detroit strings and a melody to put a lump in yer throat. Out 28th September Melting Pot - Adverse reaction 12" (UK Break Butt) First release from Sheffield based label comes from these artists who have previously released material on 10 Denk and Dj Parrot's Earth imprint. They have just completed a remix for Oxygen Music Work's Small Fish with Spines.Being spun out by dj's such as Tony Thorpe and Patrick Forge, very sparse unclutterd drum'n'bass , with staccatto mechanical beats and eiree time stretched vocals, think Augustus Pablo meets Photek, and you might get the picture. Quoit - Lounge CD/LP (UK Possible) Mick Harris (Scorn) produces a love'ingly crafted set of drum'n'bass tracks, like Scorn set to a break - beat this one plays with your subconcious and sucks you into it's dark sound-scape, not one for listening to on the headphones late at night! 8 tracks to play with. Roswell - One Nation 12" (Dutch Dap) Timely re - issue of Eric V.D.B's much sought after cut , if you don't know the original , it's a deep affair , with heavily dubbed out vocals and mantra like thumping bass - line , that cut is here , along with remixes by Tony Thorpe's Moody Boyz (Jauntier Tribal Mix) and UK jungalist Aphroditie (frantic 'Amen' Workout) , worth the pocket money for the original alone. Wise Cacausian - EP (UK Mosiac) Aubrey - EP (UK Solid Groove 5) These 2 ep's are listed together , as they both come from the group of labels run by the Shatrax geezers on the Isle of Wight, both are fine examples of the stable that is producing the finest underground techno in the UK at the moment. Both are solidly produced pieces of dancefloor funk , hypnotizing techno groovers that would sit alongside the best of Mills and Robert Hood's material, also check out the Blue Spirit , Primative Urges and Blue Print labels from these guys , all are worth buying without question! Other Platters that will matter (future tense) New in the fungle world - tipped by Mixmaster Morris , Coldcut and Paul Thomas, Vert release the second single on the BoVinyl imprint , titled "Broken Beat Beat Bepop" , 5 tracks of unhinged drum'n'bass , future releases on this label include a disc by label owner Milky Way with 2 Squarepusher remixes. Matrix boss Sean Deason releases an ep through Germany's K7 on 2nd of September , pre- release sez - "this 4 tracker reflects his musical flexibility..with 'Razorback' being one of the first drum'n'bass tracks to come out of Detroit" Other notable releases Derrick May re - issues long lost Rhythim is Rhythim tracks "Icon / Kao - Tic Harmony" , rumoured to be pressed only once, Transmat MS-21 for all ya label spotters.Date T.B.C. Anthony Shakir releases the long awaited "Mood Music for the Moody" on the Frictional imprint (FRCT004) , contains some beautiful elements - masterfully constructed trax with incredible depth. Not to be Missed. Out Now. Philadelpihia Kid Jamie Myerson releases 3 tracks of dreamy drum'n'bass titled "Decisions" through the Selector imprint. 2/9/96.
