I never met him on a personal level. I.E. I never sat down with him in a private setting and got to know the guy. I have however seen/met a group of guys at the New Music Seminar in NYC several years back who were the "UR crew", which included Mad Mike and a few others. They were dressed in military fatigues with red berets. Their presence was so strong, everyone in the room couldn't help but notice in awe. It was very cool. They played off the whole techno revolution theme quite well. I felt like they were the lead of a strike force out to crush the commercial programmers. Please don't take this as a statement that Mad Mike and UR are a bunch of militant and violent guys out to bash heads. That's not it at all. It was purely a presence type of thing. A message if you will. Public presence is all a part of the entertainment industry and they are intelligent to know it and to use that to their advantage. Mad Mike has posted several times on the 313 mail list. He comes off as intelligent, calculated, and personable from what I can tell. I've always been very impressed with what he has to say and how he represents himself in a public forum. It's too bad I didn't know more about the other people behind the scenes in Detroit back when I saw those guys and NMS. I wish I could remember who they were. When you don't know who someone is, it's quite hard to remember their name. _ -robert | |___ ____ ____ _____ | |_ \ / -__/ / _/ | _ \ __________ |_____/ \___\ |_| | |__/ / -studio- \ _________________________________ |_| http://icse1.ucsd.edu/~rcurlee/ \
