Depth in Venice
With its world-famous boardwalk, temperate weather and smattering of cafes,
Venice has a whirling, festive feel that abruptly ends after sunset. Perhaps
an influx of Fluid will satiate those who grumble about having to venture
beyond Venice for evening fun. Fluid is a techno bar, a local hangout flush
with vibrant ideas; it's organized by a revolving door of notable DJs and
writers of the sort who contribute to formidable music zines like URB,
Mixmag and Raygun. After dark, Fluid gives bodies an opportunity to wander
about a portentous setting that offers a cool mix of modern, adventurous
musical styles, ranging from trance to abstract hip-hop to more peaceful
grooves. Fluid is held at the Townhouse, an old, unassuming saloon whose
Venetian vibe lends an edge to the weekly hang, offering a low-key social
setting conducive to absorbing great music.
