For those NOT in the know, point your web browsers to http://hyperreal.com:2000/music/reviews/New_Reviews/jordan for the complete review, or email me with your questions. 'exteriors' and 'locator' are definitely for the "esoteric" listener. Breakbeat jazzy concoctions from the mighty prolific Kirk D. 'exteriors' has this weird "moo" sound throughout, and has 808 cowbell sounds in it as well. Coincidence or Circumstance? It's a great track to run through various "echo" equipment in a tight studio space, or just a track to rattle the dust out of some old speaker bassbins. 'into the otherworld' has a dreamy opening to it, as we're off into the jungle for some tribal techno funk, a la Black Dog. Reminiscent in some ways to the harder tracks off of SPANNERS, but leaving you floating on high clouds at the same time. I would have remixed this with just the synth melody line, and a couple of wispy backwards voices, but that's just me. Very good production, beginning to end. 'got the urge' is very well produced, and is "almost" heart shattering because it is so pretty. Allow me to get all mushy for a sec.. (but not for long, as I just bought Beltram's CLASSICS album today!) Near the end of this track, the frequency gets higher, into an almost whine, making it all the more easier to listen to. Even though Phenomyna is Steve Picton(and Kirk D., I thought...), and it is the "stasis mix", the original still remains similar to the work of Stasis. A good comparison of this track with Stasis material would be the lush opening & closing of 'natural people' from INSPIRATION crossed with the disco-techno urgency of 'utopia planetia' from FROM THE OLD TO THE NEW albums. It still sends goose bumps up the spine, and warrants an "infinite repeat" on your CD player. 'tone poem', a jumpy little ditty from Elegy. A type of groove that can be whistled to once you're familiar with it. Nothing really catchy or special, but still has a "polished" feel to it. 'kwaidian' is a Kirk Degiorgio track heading for the hip hugging groovers on a saturday night 1973 disco club. Extreeeeeemeeeeeely funky! Get out those platform shoes, and work it girl! You hear me, Girl! All kiddin' aside, Kirk's Esoterik project is proof the man is prolific/stylistic and very diverse. Melodic dance muzak for the lyrically inclined. I'd love to be in the club playing this, and listen to Kirk belt out a couple of verses to this one! '/p switch' is the soundtrack to fast moving hovercrafts over the 22nd century Detroit Metroplex. It has handclaps, and gives it a late '70's-early '80's tinge to it. Check it out for further enlightenment. WARNING: This track has very offensive "repetitive beats", please mix this one with the ambient number from The Stylistics called 'cjb'(ambient mix) on their 1953 album, REPETITAR. I'm just havin' too much fun with this. The classic Essex boys turn in a decent track, 'climatic calm' from the split B12/A.R.T. release a while back. I seem to get a rush from the track, despite the title. I don't understand it. It's also an ideal track to listen to when viewing art from "The Gallery" at B12's EPiCeNTRE site(www.obsolete.com/b12). Objets D'Art is a fascinating collection of Kirk's A.R.T. label, and will be a much sought after collection years from now. I'm not too sure how the cats in Detroit like the collection, but you can be sure it is up there with any of the early 12's from KMS, Metroplex, Transmat, and Planet E. 9/10 (1 point off for not having 'nebula variations', 'T.R.Y. 2004 Funk', or 'the priestess' featured on CD1. Shame on you, Tim!) Derek Jordan
