I can't blame them for this; actually I have met few people outside this mailing list who know what IDM is. The most general expression would be "intelligent techno" I suppose, which I think is better, since IDM isn't always danceable, but always technological. But the abbreviation IT wouldn't be very smart to use for this list!

I once got this comment for my music and was very glad, since I've always liked video game music. Dave Angel is doing the music for some video game.
