Hmmm...my take on this issue is *exactly* the opposite. I'd say most techno, even stuff that doesn't fall into the IDM sphere, is incredibly dark and brooding stuff. I think alot of IDM exemplifies this too - that hopeful melancholy of the early Detroit stuff extending its influence to records that are being made right now. Sure, there are some tracks that are more upbeat and jolly, but on the whole I'd say we're dealing with some fairly gloomy stuff here (and we love it! ;) ). - Matthew "I grew up thinking that techno music is actually something that you can't imagine.
