The experience of music is of course a subjective phenomenon, but this stuff
exists in other places besides our heads and the fact that it ALWAYS comes
down to opinion shouldn't deter people from attempting to use language to
describe the thoughts and images that the music (or other art) inspires in
them. Where, when and through what (and whose) history, influence and taste
the piece is written - as well as listened to - can all provide additional
fodder for musical conversations beyond the yawning empire of subjective
opinion. Whether or not someone cares enough about their readers to fill you
in on these other forces at work in their ad or review is up to them, and
the informed idm fan and consumer might do well to factor this into how much
credence is lent to a particular instance of hype and/or innuendo.
