WHEN I LOST MY RDJ VIRGINITY: The first time I heard an Aphex
record was when I picked up a promo of the US On single at a record
fair in 1994. I was listening to Orbital 2 very heavily at the time
and was starting to buy other things like FSOL's Lifeforms. I heard
this Aphex guy was interesting so I took it home and gave it a
whirl. I was shocked. I loved the beats but I couldn't understand
the music. I was used to lush production heavy dance stuff like The
Orb, so this music was a new world to me. I must have listened to
the thing a million times just trying to figure it out. When I did
I fell in love. Next record fair I found the SAW II promo. When I
played this I found it utterly different than On except for Blue
Calx. I played it when I did homework and it seriously messed with
my head. When I saw Aphex Dj at Millenium I knew something was
happening. I was blown away by the hairy guy hanging over the
tables. I bought I Care.. the day it came out in the US. Then
Ventolin and now I'm just plain fucking insane. I've bought every
Aphex record I can find. I'm only missing four Ep's: Q-chastic, Joy
Rex 5 and 9, Powerpill. I've bought everything else he's released
(excluding the odd compilation track) and have spent a few hundred
dollars doing so. I am now a junkie....strung along by the rumors
of new Rephlex releases and info from IDM on new RDJ projects. All
is lost....All is lost....
