ersatz audio phn:313-438-1352 p.o.box 02713 phx:313-875-4528 detroit,mi 48202 USA EZersatz@aol.com EP TITLE: OMNIOLIO EP NUMBER: EZ-004 EP FORMAT: COMPILATION Side A:Track 1 : Artificial Material (A. Miller & R. Saltz) - 'master card visa' Side A:Track 2 : First Mode (Kymm Serrano) - 'contact' Side B:Track 1 : Lesseninglesson (I, Robot) - 'hebephrenic cyclone' Side B:Track 2 : Platex (Platex) - 'latex' The credits here read like the second cousin of the Dopplereffekt 7" and it's no surprise that Ersatz operates its label through an earnestly subtle natural cool that seems to come standard issue with the 313 area code. And true to that D cryptical form, someone's messing around with my intuition. If I follow my instincts (yes, I've considered the definition of ERSATZ) I do believe there are several artists involved in the creation of this quoted "compilation". In such a situation, a cut by cut dissection and analysis is in order. Step this way for the OR tour thank you.... Artificial Material (A. Miller & R. Saltz) - 'master card visa' Miller and Saltz eh, fair enough they might as well be Bochum and Welt this time around. An allusion that's deserving due to "le silence du temps" which translates to "dang that's some lickable production on them snares!". Fully confused? Hand me my Kromode 03. It's like this; rich and viciously whip cracking spaced out solid rhythms (best pitched up at least plus 6). Excelling non standard polyrhythmic programming with a nifty pop synth hook that's got my number. Bonus tone dialing exemplary retro techno electro.... "Please hold." First Mode (Kymm Serrano) - 'contact' Serrano of course takes a more meditative trail into darker regions of eerie ambient bubble production. A slight 'contact' vocal sample signals the finger snapping rhythms and initiates a rise in the levels of the boxwork and an increase in the complexity of the electronic jazzy back beat. In the distance strings drift, a tambourine solos with a repetitive melody and whistle. I can't help but think of the early days of the Black Dog. A big wag of the tail to this one, I bet there's some magic in the tribe when it comes out *live*. CONTACT with the full on sound of future jazz. Side B : Track 1 : Lesseninglesson (I, Robot) - 'hebephrenic cyclone' Indeed the credits start to deteriorate and disappear down the 'hebephrenic cyclone'. I, Robot? A steady hypnotic tone introduction lulls into a gradual bass line, mmmm a little vinyl surface noise (crispy!) and light cymbal combo which commands your attention moments before a distorted kick drops in like Jackie Chan. POW! Kicks and hits pepper your eardrum in a well dubbed out groove. My only complaint is the music way off in the background isn't more pronounced or at least as up front as the aggro elements in this one. Side B : Track 2 : Platex (Platex) - 'latex' Imagine an introduction with a Cylon on the blink and you've stepped inside LATEX. This one has real avant garde electro flavor. The timing is way wigged out yet cooley rolling. A flatly kicked (BIG KICKS) and verily funky number. Breakdowns and handclaps dance around snazzy freejazz electronics. Science Fiction strings play tag with orgasmically effected vocal stabs. Perfect for the early morning flavor wave. I hope you enjoyed your tour. Please stop at the gift shop this week, this 12" just may be in the bins marked 'OH MY GOD!' Teep on now: TESTPILOT VOL.1 - Jungian Archetype "Pursuit of the Blue car" 1996 is gonna be all about Viewlexx...
