GD asked: :Although this has been brought up before, I still am a bit murky about the :term. Is an electro tune practically anything with an 808, or is there a bit :more to it in terms of the styling of the beats? I thought someone else would take you up on this one, but no one has. This is all IMO -- others may have other definitions. I'd say that "electro" is in the interplay between the kickdrum and the snares. 808's are great for electro, but they're hardly a prerequisite. In the most general terms, an electro drum track will (usually) have the accents placed on the snares, rather than the kickdrum. Like jungle, electro is usually 4/4 but never "4 on the floor" -- the percussion lines tend to be pretty fluid. I very nice track I heard recently was "Afflicted" by Vermin on the Fresh Emmissions comp. Sort of a dark-ambient-meets-electro feel. Creepy. Nice to see the electro mechanisms used in a new setting. -d.w.
