I don't think Orbital could be truly effective at Lollapalooza. Short of going dead last. First off is the light show. Dance music without an excessive amount of blinding lights just doesn't work for me. Orbital also have a FANTASTIC video mixer who just does beautiful stuff *live* to accompany what Orbital is playing. I have no idea who the other Lollapalooza bands are this year. And I don't care either. But if Orbital are on at night. I'll be there. I can't seem them ever being bad in any location. Sounds a little fan-crazy but they have never disappointed live, ever. Of course we can rehash Select voting them best live show at Glastonbury'94 over all the rock bands. In subsequent issues Select has named this Orbital as the best gig of all time. Don't forget the Select *never* mentions dance music, unless it's Bjork or some such band. High praise indeed. In other news of techno becoming more mainstream, Spanners was of course given 9/10 last summer in Details, and was also given the album cover picture on the reviews section. If this doesn't impress you, Bjork - Post was in the same issue buried somewhere in the back - 8/10. And a couple of weeks ago People magazine actually reviewed Goldie - Timeless with a VERY favourable review, describing it not as jungle, but as a fusion of techno, ambient, and jazz. Phil Downey
