I don't understand this. If he admires the "rave concept" whatever that is, why would he have to research it, like <it> was some kind of biology lab?

Flat out - US <Rock> publications like Spin <suck donkey farts>. They have always held electronic music and dance music in contempt. For most of the rock press, techno is <not music> 'cause there are no words and it doesnt sound like part of the rock pantheon (name the rock-critic fav here -Velevet -sonic yuth - iggy...blah, blah, blah). The only type of electronic music the rock press likes is faux-industrial like Ministry and NIN 'cause they have words and wear leather trousers.
