vis a vis subtropic, what really strikes me about the album is the
sparseness and beauty of the sounds. the leanness and restraint of the
production lets the textural quirks come to the front. this economy of
sounds also puts more empasis on (approriately) the drum programming,
which i find to be almost constantly compelling throughout.
