I have seen many names flying around this list, as should be, time to throw poodle in the barrel 'o' fish...
If you have a soundcard in your pc, you could do much stupider things, than ftp the file
ftp.kosmic.com/kosmic/songs/players/m4w220sl.zip
(Yep Mod 4 Windows, not my fave... but it does the job... for serious players web search for Cubic Player)
And having done that, checked out some of the several hours worth of music they have at www.kosmic.wit, or ftp.kosmic.wit (but the WWW is much nicer ;) and u can IWAVE the tunes too! )
Seriously IDM ppl, there is a shitload of good (and bad, unsurprisingly) stuff available to download and listen to gratis, and a hell of a lot of talent making incredible tunes from basic hardware.
Perhaps my tastes are limited, I have to admit the majority of names mentioned on this list are unknown to me. That is changing ;), and I feel it only fair I share what info I have gleaned these past couple of years. Frugality forces you to find ways to find stuff ;)
Sadly, it seems many of the finest pieces of computer assembled music I have not found from the net, but from BBS and so cannot point you in the right direction... until they turn up ;)
But, a fine place to find many of these things is.. ftp.cdrom.com/.21/demos/music/
I believe that is the address...
For those who don't know... a typical size for one of these creations is between 300-600k and at last count I had about 50MB of the choicest.
If this subject is off-topic, apologies, but anyone wishing to continue this thread in private with me is welcome to.
One final point.
When u see what you have to do to make something sound good on a PC, it makes you wonder if more expensive hardware makes it easier. You undoubtedly need Intelligence to get something decent from a PC. Does more expensive hardware require less intelligence? If you follow up this msg, u can decide for yourself.
It was hard to make this message sound ok. I hope I have managed it ;)
