I'm sorta surprised our resident post-industrialist aesthete (Mr. Greg
Earle) hasn't already discussed this Skinny Puppy offshoot more. Download is
among the most sophisticated music ever made by the Skinny Puppy crew, and
the surprising thing about this record is the depth to which techno
permeates many of the songs. While it is a tragedy that this had to be the
last project that Dwayne Goettel took part in (with the exception of the
soon-to-be released final Skinny Puppy album), it is a fitting testament, as
all of the divergent tangents that SP have been exploring for the past ten
years are represented on these two near-seamless releases (the full-length
_Furnace_ and the very extended EP _Microscopic_). I'm going to write a more
in-depth review, but I felt obligated (as another ex-industro kid who feels
obligated to keep his toes in the water) to fly the flag and let everybody
know that these reviews are worth taking a chance on.
