Mike had his day back in 1993 when tango 'n' vectif came out. What a great album that was...... the rest of his material though sounds like painful self-mockery. Jega too had his day.... first 12" on Skam to be precise. Everything else I've heard from him though has been less than brilliant.... Who else exactly should I be so proud of on the Planet Mu roster? I personally think that the Involve label should be worth following based on the strength of Aspen's last album. Also, the Context and Toshoklabs labels are definitely up there in terms of putting out well-rounded IDM tracks in the last year. I'm also hoping that Warp, Schematic, and Musik Aus Strom get out of their slumps and start putting out decent material again. In the meantime, I will continue listening to EBE (his new 12" on Soma is solid), Circulation, The Timewriter, John Selway, Tom Churchill, and more until IDM artists return to putting out listenable material. BTW: I think Mixmaster Morris's quote about Fax Records back in the day (Fax Records is like ambient crack) relates quite effectively to current IDM.... it is fun to hear in the shops, but once you get home it bores quickly.... everything these days is so gimmick-y.
