Well, simply put, house music made in Chicago. Sometimes the definition is extended to include music that sounds like it came from Chicago. Standard Disclaimer: The following definitions are broad generalizations and all my info may not be correct. Chicago, as the birthplace of acid in the 80's, has a strong tradition. Chi. house tends to be more "trax" style, generally harder and/or rougher than say, New York house, which tends to be overproduced diva stuff. Chicago's original stuff was on Trax Records which was the early Phuture/DJ Pierre acid stuff and Dancemania, which is more Southside ghetto style and can run more to the "Beat the bitch with a bat" kinda stuff. Today, there is the Relief/Casual enterprise along w/ DJAX Up Beats support of Chicago along w/ Trax and Dancemania and whatever else. DJAX generally releases the harder acid stuff, Relief is more experimental and Casual tends to the vocal trax. Some Chicago house artists in no particular order: DJ Pierre (originally, now the father of wild pitch is based in NYC) Spanky Robert Armani Paul Johnson DJ Sneak Cajmere/Green Velvet DJ Skull Akilah Bryant Adonis ChipE Mike Dearborn Armando Steve Poindexter Ron Trent etc., etc. peace john ________________________________________________________________________ The power of the dance is a dangerous power.
