I've got a reccommendation, but as it isn't strictly idm or ambient, I want to justify it just the slightest bit. One of the stepping stones for my departure from crap music (hehe well, let's just call it 'traditional') was the brilliant noise of shoegazing bands out of england in the late 80s. In particular, I'm thinking of My Bloody Valentine. From there, I began to redefine what I thought music was, until a point now at which I love electronic ambience in all its beastly forms. So, my bloody valentine. I know there are tons of fans out there, many perhaps on this list, who are STILL waiting for kevin to release a new album. Of course, many of us have moved on to different musical appreciation, but as I have no doubt I'd be eager to hear a new MBV album, I imagine there are others. Well, NO new MBV. But, I've found something very close. Flying Saucer Attack. I don't know where they're from, England perhaps? My cd's were imported from Canada, but I don't think they're actually canadian. ANYWAY, let's get on with it. This stuff is awesome. Brilliant walls of sound eerily reminiscient of MBV. In fact, the first time I heard one (on the radio, no less), I thought it was MBV. They do have their own identity, however. As MBV is more traditional in time and beat, Flying Saucer Attack are a more mellow-paced band. You can hear the progression of sound under the distortion clearly enough to make the distinction. Strictly as sound, which I'm sure my parents would say is warped shit deserving of a trip to the trash, the music is similiar to MBV. As music, it's much more subdued, more ambient even. The tension of MBV is often replaced by the relaxed atmosphere of these two (or three?). I have the albums "Further" and "Chorus", both of which I recommend to anyone who loved My Bloody Valentine, but has since moved on to ambient/listening music. I'm not connected with the band (as my obvious lack of information ABOUT the band shows), I just love this stuff. If you think this message is out of line for the list, I'm sorry, but I had to tell someone who might understand. ---brian -- ****************************************************************** All women are fat, don't argue with them about it.
