I certainly don't want to turn this into collectors vs. purists
or anything silly like that, but... certainly it should be fine that pj
should advertise his wares this way, he does it for the same reason that
dogs lick themselves. I imagine plenty of mail has gone toward that
stack of aphex rarities, and probably with attachments like "I'll give
you ten more bucks than your highest offer!"
And why not? Some of his items are difficult to come by, and are
worth their inflated prices. Most of us will not find sealed J9's or
Parasights in obscure record stores, because their wasn't very many to
begin with. However, Tusken Raiders and Spacepimps shouldn't be that
hard to cough up, and that is the problem I see here.
Just because it's out of print is no reason to assess instant
profitable value to anything. Please avoid paying high prices for things
that really aren't worth the dollar charged. I worry that it will
seemingly make everything "rare", as is the case, often. Please, look
around, think before you encourage or discourage this kind of pricing and
try and not fuck your fellow music lover.
As a final thought, the last record setting record price that _I_
knew of was $250+ for a original pink vinyl "Rez" by Underworld in S.F.
Hmmmm. A fool and his money.
