If you didnt' like Boss Drum you really
won't like the single Destination Eschaton.
It is even more cheesy. I don't know if the
rest of the album is like that or not, but I
would fear the worst.
I actually liked Boss Drum a lot, but I'm a
sucker for a happy vibe and silly white-man
rap.
I don't believe that they made Boss Drum bad
on purpose because it was better than the US
version (don't know about the brit version) of
En-Tact and I don't think you could make a good
argument that they were making a series of bad
records and plotting their comeback.
I also don't think Boss Drum or En-Tact were bad,
but techno wise they may be a bit thin. I think
they are naturaly cheesy and they should revel in
it. They sort of remind me of the Lightning Seeds.
I think NIN is perpetually trapped in a downward
spiral. It's the classic trap of people who make
angry music. Once you are rich and famous you just
don't have the same core of anger anymore. People
can't relate to your problems. Suddenly it all looks
like play acting.
