I know of a few serious ambient fans whose first exposure to the genre was the Orb and the crappy Artof Noise ambient thing. Some pop music is indicative of an underlying style where, if desired, people can find things they like better than the pop slop they are listening to now. That is, if they aren't scared off by ridicule first... eh
