Where are the clubs that play IDM? I have lived in the SF bay area for
about nine months now and I can't find a single regularly occuring event
that plays anything I recognize. I am a fan of electronic music in
almost all its forms and I have a huge CD collection of mostly techno.
Yet whenever I go out I never hear any of the bands that I like. Where
are the DJs that play Aphex, Orbital, Black Dog, Planet Dog, Plastikman,
Sabres, Chemical Bros, Harthouse and the like?????? The only thing that
came close was one Thursday at the 8th House at Cat's grill before Freaky
Chakra and Single Cell Orch played when I heard a Sabres remix of Primal
Scream, some Eat Static and one Plastikman song (who was that DJ? Anyone
know? I'd go see him again. It was great except when the sound cut out.
And the topless blue women dancing with fire were cool too). Don't get
me wrong, I like to hear really super new "cutting edge" stuff, but is
there something wrong with playing popular, familiar techno tunes? A
fair mix of obscure and not-so-obscure is all I'm asking for. Anyone
from the SF area have any suggestions?
I am also looking for somewhere I can get techno stickers (I would kill
for a Plastikman sticker). Anyone? Anyone?
