Anyone catch the PBS "Rock and Roll" documentary last night? The two
episodes were _Punk_ (which I missed) and _The Perfect Beat_ (which I didn't).
In a nutshell, the documentary painted a picture from "Planet Rock"
through "Walk this Way", LL's "Radio", PE's "Fight the Power", Derrick May
(a small on-camera interview where he described techno as the modern black
man's soul music), New Order and "The Perfect Kiss", house music and
"Vogue", and the Orb.
Of course, considering that they compressed techno, rap, house, and
ambient into a one-hour program may seem criminal, understand the series
is on rock. Nonetheless, it was relatively interesting to see someone
outside looking in making connections between different genres of music.
