Well, you can only use CV/Gate and analogue sync if all your synths are monphonic and analogue - I know Ege Bam Yasi plays live like this, syncing 303s, 909s and 808s etc. But if you're using a sampler or any other MIDI equipment, as in at least 90% of the cases, then you DO need MIDI, unless you're using backing tape... I know there's plenty of stuff that can outperform the MMT8, but they ARE cheap, and they work more like a drum machine, with pattern looping etc, making them well suited to techno - why pay more when they do the job so well? Still on a gear tip, can anyone mail me privately with any recommendations for a new synth? My shortlist so far includes: Emu Morpheus, Korg Wavestation (SR, EX or A/D), Roland JD800, expanded Roland JV80/880. I will probably be buying second-hand or ex-demo, so if anyone's got anything to sell, too... See ya Tom Churchill E-mail: tom@chrchfam.demon.co.uk Electronic DJ and musician
