First of all, the US Autechre LP5 CD always had 12 tracks. There is some silence at the end of track 11, so you might have thought the disc was over at that point. But track 12 was always there. (I believe the UK version has the last song as part of track 11, though, but the effect is the same.) However, here's a scary thought: Lee Azzarello wrote:

Actually, there is a company out there trying to do this very thing with DVDs, but in a very different way. There was an article on Wired News last week which described a company trying to come up with a film that you could coat a DVD with. This particular film would be "activated" by the reading of the DVD by a laser, and over some period of time, would eventually turn blue. At that point, the DVD would become unreadable, I guess because the laser can't reflect properly through blue.
