Well I struck it BIG! I just got a package of fine techno from the
Netherlands. Here is a list and some first impressions...
U-Trax 5utr umm2 - utroid machine missions - the black hole ep
FUCKING BRILLIANT!!! This is one of the finest peices of vinyl that I've
ever heard. Side A is a masterfully worked driving track bound to get
the dance floor rocking. Side B has two beautifully intricate electronic
tracks that tickle the senses. It ends with a recording of DJ White
Delight's computer with a speach emulator telling of the release and a
little about the Connection Machine and contact information. Absolutely
majical!
U-Trax 11utr joi1 - joi - brainmind tehcnology ep
I am at a loss to describe this record. It is way out there! Weird
beyond recognition. I played it last night for my best friend and all he
could do was raise his eybrows, laugh, and say, "Holy SHIT!" Truly
bugged out! That says it all.
U-Trax 12utr bishop1 - the last rung of the ladder
Completely mental. Electronic music for the mind and soul. Grooving
technology to transport your spirit to future dimentions. A couple of
the tracks boarder on drone guitar music blended with overdriven and
distorted beats. Experimentation is at a high on this one. Clear vinyl
to boot!
U-Trax 13utr sys1 Tick Trax Vol.1 (on white vinyl!)
Does it suprise me that the label is a replica of the original Acid Trax
Vols on Chicago Trax? Absolutely not. Side B is acid, pure and raw.
The Dutch are outshowing the Germans in their mastery of acid... Side A
is techno in the vein of oldschool Detroit that even the Detroit originators
could praise. This record is bound to be as classic as as the the Acid
Trax records it replicates on the label.
Bunker018 - X-Plain
Techno and acid are combined here to bring the listener to new levels of
music appreciation. As this is my first Bunker record I now see what all
the hype is about. The writers use classic techno motifs without getting
caught up in the cliche of the commercial sound. The tracks on this
record take the listener from light and soft styles to dark and sinister
lurkers.
Acid Planet 4 - Beverly Hills 808303
Another Acid stomper from the minds of the Dutch underground. With 8
(count 'em EIGHT!) tracks total on this ep, every acid fan is bound to
find a track that takes them somwhere they've never been. The logo side
follows a more classic acid lead feel while the other side... well, what
can I say? For all those asking for acid tracks that break from the
mindset of the original Chicago releases should look no further. Turn
your ears to this record and stop bitching about the 303's limitations
because this record breaks all the molds!
EevoLute Musique EEVO 013 - Faceless Techno Bastards are a complete hype...
Stefan Robbers is Holland's Juan Atkins! He's been a source for the most
amazing and original music to come out of the country below sea level. I
have David Carron and now this. Professional, qualty sounds emit from
my speakers as this record spins on my deck. It's music like the stuff
that EevoLute puts out that is powerful enough to make disbelievers
understand the power of electronic music while avoiding the commercial
trap that makes most records sound dated even after a couple of months.
Timeless music. Juan Atkins owns the majik but Stefan Robbers has
discovered the secret. His ear is highly regarded and this record
prooves why.
Prime/Alter Eevo PRIME 022 - Max404
I am a little spoiled by the previous records in this review to give this
record a fair listen. To me it doesn't hold the feel of the other
records in this review. The three cuts of Not If I See You First
(there's a live version called Seen recorded at Funki Biznis and a remix)
have more of a commercial feel and don't push the experimental envelope
that I search for in noe records. Two Bside tracks make up for this
though. 6am Somewhere In Eindhoven and The Next Morning save face for
this twelve. They are beautiful and interesting but overall the record
doesn't stand up to the other EevoLute releases I own.
New Electronica/EEvoLute elec14 - Agenda 22
Enough has been said about this record for me not to have to go into a
review of each track (since they are all cuts from different EevoLute
twelves). I'd just like tp add that this is one of those comps that is
so inviting to the listener that they are bound to want to hunt for the
original releases just to hear what else this magnificent label has to
offer. I continue to praise Stefan Robbers for providing the devout with
an endless barrage of wicked tracks!
