I bought 3394 sometime last year and found it a pleasant relief after a peiod
of increasing impatience with the simplicity and lack of thought in a lot of
current dance music. It's all very carefully produced, and has a very organic
feel, even though containing contributions from different artists. I haven't
got 0094, but looking at the list of artists, it's very similar. I'm actually
finding it hard to describe (!) as it varies from very controlled, ethereal
synthetic beats to gorgeos chaotic "meltdowns" of street sounds, samples etc.
For me, it approaches the care and patience of Mouse On Mars's "Vulvaland".
I just bought Miasma a week back, and it's a similar highly-controlled ambient
soundtrack, the distinction being the occasional spoken/sung vocal track and
acoustic orchestral additions. It generally works very well, is very gentle on
the whole and quite beautiful at times, although for me they could lose some
of the overtly vocal parts. The addition of acoustic instruments is nice, and
some nice spoken-word German overlay (which someone could translate for me?!)
adds to the effect. Recommended.
I'm not sure of the details of the 3D imaging system this Nottingham-based
label use, but it sure as hell does something to the sound! Can anyone explain
just what they do?
