After months of rumors, Technics have finally released details of the new Tecknics Mark III turntables. It looks basically the same apart from a newly designed cartridge which uses a laser beam instead of a stylus to play the record. This eliminates the click and pop that is generally associated with vinyl. As tracking is so accurate it also stops any skiping or jumping of the record as well. As there is no contact between the record and laser, it means that there will be no wearing of the vinyl and expensive "dub plates" would last a lot longer. The price of the new turntable is estimated to be between 500 - 600 UKP, although this is likely to drop within a few months of release. The best news is that the release of the mark III will mean that dealers will be selling the mark II at cut down prices to clearout old stock. Some dealers have hinted at the 200-UKP mark. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< oh my gosh. who needs cd's anymore? prolly getting my hopes up unnecessarily! - R -- o _/,_ . /o...\__// fk453@cleveland.freenet.edu \_'__/``\` \`
