It would appear to me that there's only so far one can go with an approach that breaks the music down to its individual components. At the end of the day there is clear daylight between the technical merit of a record and how much you like it (eg. how much it gets played). For instance 'bytes' an album which has received much comment as of late is a "good" album however I haven't listened to it for abou six months. As Kierkegaard said there is a leap of faith which one much traverse that trancends reason and rationality (I think). In a nutshell it's got to firstly light ones candle in a musical sense and secondly have a good beat. I'll stop now because I'm starting to talk Bollocks.
