Got the Ultramarine Hymn 12" today and am mighty impressed.
First side has Mu-Ziq and Luke Slater mixes. The Mu-Ziq offering is
typically wigged-out. Crazed melodies dropped over a honky sub-bass
between subtle, calming breaks (for air). How come I always think my
1200s are wrecked when I play Mu-Ziq :-> ? The Luke Slater mix is sooo
nice. More conventionally layered with a bass that just hits the mark.
Mmmm.
Flip for 'Over Love' and 'Lovelife' both with the same stripped down,
bare essentials, choppy style. I think these are Ultramarine's own mixes.
They both have a more housey influence as opposed to their recent folky
vibe.
I reckon this is the best stuff they've done since the classic 'Every Man
And Woman Is A Star'.
