kit clayton is essentially mixing dub elements with an idm-friendly sense of production (sparse melodies, the odd noise here & there, a sense of strangeness throughout), combining it all with a knack for the track that just works. 'nek sanalet', his latest album on pole's label ~scape, may remind some of pole (namely, the dubby sound) but the way he builds his tunes has very little to do with the flatter approach mr. betke takes. they are minimal to an extent, but contain enough variation to make an ADDer like me contented, while being coated in some of the most comfortable production i've heard in a long while. (thank you dub) his previous cd on drop beat 'repetition & nonsense' is also a must but it's less dubby & more digital-sounding (containing elements which would be at ease in some mego jam on top of lush four-four beats). both have their heights & their lows. prior to that he's released a flurry of 12"s which lance would be more qualified to tell you about as i don't have them. ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
