Heh - hey, we liked Polyrock 11 or so years ago ... they were pretty good.

Is this flame bait? :-) Isn't this - "white, middle-class, college-aged guy" - the main demographic of *all* of the Rock crowd, of any era?!? Sure, there are women; sure, there are people outside of the mean age range, but hey, when it comes right down to it, the Rock crowd will always be mostly 16-25. You get older; the audiences tend not to.

Hmmn, I've been on Usenet for 9 years now, I suppose there's a finite chance I'll still be on it (for some definition of "it") in another 14 ... I'll let you know :-)

Well, in the "early 70's" I actually had my 15-year-old self convinced that wank sh*t like ELP, Yes, Black Sabbath and the like were the cat's meow. Luckily, thanks to time and maturity I got better :-) I suppose the original point has premise in that people who were young and who listened to ProgRock usually "grew out of it" and then later denounced their earlier "This is the *best*, maaaaan" tastes as "immature" and ProgWank, so hey, isn't this just the Same Thing? But I really don't think so. This music doesn't have mindless noodle-roni soloing or other pretentious wank elements to it that the musos were so fond of in my callow youth, so I don't see a future Revisionist History taking place denouncing early 90's IDM as "Pretentious neo-ProgRock wank". On the other hand, I've actually seen people post here with Rush quotes in their .signatures. Unbelievable :-) I may be a few years younger than "Klaus Schulze's original fan base", but the day I suddenly feel the urge to shift to predominantly Classical listening, please shoot me.
